Further Education

For those learners who are ready to advance to other educational opportunities, the following options are available in Ontario:

Adult Upgrading Programs

The Academic and Career Entrance Program (ACE) is primarily for individuals who have not completed high school but are interested in post secondary or apprenticeshipprograms. The ACE program is available at all community colleges in Ontario. The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website provides contact information for all community colleges in the province.

Adult
High School Programs

Many school boards operate adult day school and night school programs for individuals needing credits to obtain their Grade 12 Ontario secondary school diploma. The Ministry of Education website provides the contact information for all 72 school boards in Ontario.

The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) of the Ministry of Education allows individuals to earn a Grade 12 diploma by completing credit courses through correspondence. Courses are offered in both French and English. There is a $40 non-refundable administration fee to enrol in each course.

The General Educational Development (GED) Program

The General Educational Development Program is an international testing program for adults who have not completed high school. Adults who successfully complete the GED tests are awarded the Ontario Secondary School Equivalency Certificate. In Ontario, GED testing is administered by the Independent Learning Centre (ILC) of the Ministry of Education. Detailed information about the GED testing program is available on the ILC website.

Post Secondary Programs

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website has information about community college and university programs in Ontario. Some community college and university courses and programs are available online and through correspondence.
